Biography

married Anna Jans, Children: Bontko, Grietje, Jan, a child that died on March 9 1631 in Midwolda.

Benno paid Hindrick Smit 2 Caroli guilders a year for taxes on his land starting 1651.

Benno lived at Homerilaan 9 in Midwolda from 1629 to 1654.

Benno was a Mennonite like his parents. Their church belonged to the Uko-Wallisten Mennonites. He was baptized as an adult on Dec 13 1639. He became one of the leaders in fighting for the freedom of the Mennonites in the area, as the government of Groningen did not want them to be allowed to exist. Uucko Walles, the father of his brother Sebo's wife, was the leader of the Mennonites in the area.

In 1669 Anna's son Bontko helped her get 300 guilders that were owed to her by a number of people. He and Jan lent her money in 1677, and helped her write to some other people in 1678.

Benno is listed as the cousin of Addo Tonckes in Addo's marriage contract in Scheemda in 1648.
