Cornelius Bradford Sr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A013336.

Cornelius Bradford was born in Kingston, Massachusetts Bay on 10 December 1737 and per Kingston's Church of Christ records was baptized at age 5 by Pastor Thaddeus MacCarty on 22 May 1743. Cornelius was the son of Joshua and Hannah (Bradford) Bradford, both of Cornelius's records, birth and baptism aforementioned, having recorded/registered both his parents' names.

Cornelius married Patience (Davies/Davis) in 1760, lived in Meduncook (now Friendship) or Cushing, Maine. Cornelius was recorded as living in Musconges (in Muscongus Bay) in the 1767 per the "ME Early Census Record" (source below). Note: Musconges was an Abenaki name meaning "fishing place" or "many rock ledges," an area that today is located in midcoast Maine bounded by Marshall Point Light, Pemaquid Point Light, and Franklin Island Light. Cornelius and Patience had 14 children, 6 sons and 8 daughters (listed below).

Cornelius served in the Revolutionary War. He commanded the 6th regiment, Col. Mason Wheaton's regiment of Lincoln County, Massachusetts militia. Sometime after his military service and as documented in the History of Bradford, Penobscot County, Massachusetts (now State of Maine), Cornelius removed from Meduncook and became an "early settler" of Bradford, Penobscot County. See Wikipedia source below for Bradford.

Cornelius died in Bradford, Penobscot, Province of Maine before September 15, 1790, the date his estate was administered for probate.

Six sons were listed per Fessenden's "A Genealogy of the Bradford Family," in New England Historic, Genealogic Society for the Year 1850 (source below):

  1. Joshua
  2. Josephus, born 10 February 1768, married Hannah [unknown], died 31 March 1846, age 78.
  3. Winslow
  4. Frederick, had sons John, Frederick, and James.
  5. James
  6. Cornelius [Jr.], cast away on Grand Manan Island, and perished.[1]

Reportedly, Cornelius Sr. and Patience were also parents of the following eight daughters: Hannah b. 1761 (or 1766); Elsie b. 1762; Elizabeth "Betsey" b. 1765; Sarah b. 1770; Sylvia b. 1772; Mehitable b. 1773; Prudence b. 1774; and Lydia b. 1780.
