Biography

Elizabeth Breau was born about 1685 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Vincent Breau (abt. 1631–abt. 1685) and Marie Bourg (1645–1730).[1]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Elizabeth appeared twice in the census.[2]

First, she appeared as Susanne [recte Elizabeth], aged 2 months, living with her mother, Marie BOURC [sic], aged 50 [sic], widow of Vincent BREAU, along with nine siblings: Antoine, aged 22 [sic], Marguerite, aged 18, Pierre, aged 16, Anne, aged 14, Francois, aged 12, Jean, aged 11 [sic], Marie, aged 9 [sic], Jeanne, aged 6 [sic], and Rene, aged 3. The family was living on 3 arpents of cultivable land with 6 cattle, 4 sheep and 6 hogs.

Later, she appeared as Isabelle [recte Elizabeth], aged 5 months, living with her mother Marie Bourc [sic], aged 41, widow of Vincent BROT [sic], along with the same nine siblings: Antoine, aged 20, Marguerite, aged 18, Pierre, aged 16, Anne, aged 17 [sic], Francoise [recte Francois], aged 11 [sic], Jeanne [recte Jean], aged 9, Marie, aged 7, Jeanne, aged 5 [sic], and Rene, aged 3. The family was living on 4 arpents of cultivable land with 10 cattle, 5 sheep, and 5 hogs.

CENSUS: 1693, age 7 years.

CENSUS: 1698, age 13 years.

CENSUS: 1700, age 15 years.

Elizabeth (24) married Marcel Saulnier (18) (born about 1691 in Grand Pré, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; son of Louis Pierre Saulnier and Louise Bastineau) on 24 Nov 1710 in Grand-Pré, Acadie. Their known children were:

  1. Anne Saulnier (abt. 1712–1765) .
  2. Agnes Saulnier (1718– ) .
  3. Pierre Saulnier (1721–bef. 1776) .
  4. Elisabeth Saulnier (abt. 1723– ) .
  5. Charles Saulnier (abt. 1725–bef. 1772)
