Biography

John was born at Corskelly and baptised at Lonmay on 12 August 1785. He was the son of Peter Buchan and Isabella Strachan.[1]

Research Notes

"August 12th 1785... Peter Buchan (Baloan) in Corskillie had a son baptised named John..."

John's parents later baptised another child as John Buchan (1802-1889), suggesting that this John died at an early age.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Peter "Baloan" & Isabella had a second son named John "Hoc" on 10 May 1802 who lived to the ripe old age of 86 years. That suggests that their first son John may have died in infancy. There appears to be no death record.

I've now made a reference of this in the research notes.
