Biography

Children: Berent (July 10 1692), Theunis (Oct 11 1694), Bartelt (Sept 11 1698, mother called Janna Jans), Jan (Aug 27 1702).

According to their marriage records, Arent Claesen living at “Meulecate”in Wapenveld married Janna Berents Wassinks (or Hoessinks), a young lady from Hoxbergen (most likely a division of the town of Didam in Gelderland). Wapenveld is a village in the Heerde area. Meulencate, in more recent Dutch spelled, Molencaten, was a small castle about 10 km outside of Hattem. It was owned by Johan van Keppel, and apparently had 3 windmills from which the house was named (molen is Dutch for windmills). Johan bought the land in 1637 and built the castle in 1646. In the 1660’s he was still living there as he was bringing suits against other people at that time. Aert must have been working there as a farm hand or man servant. [1]
