Biography

Sarah was born on 29 November 1834. Sarah was the child of William Coldicutt and Sarah Rouse. [1] Sarah was baptised on 4 January 1835 in Aston, Warwickshire, England, although her place of residence was recorded as Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, [1] Sarah passed away in 1917.[2][3]


MRS. SARAH LAWRENCE. One of the oldest residents of Auckland, Mrs. Sarah Lawrence, died at her residence, Victoria Avenue, Mount Eden, on Wednesday. Mrs. Lawrence was born in Birmingham, on November 29, 1834. and arrived in Auckland witk her parents on May 1, 1842, by the schooner Osprey. Mrs. Lawrence was the sole survivor of the passengers of that vessel on that particular voyage. She was third daughter of the late Mr. Wm. Coldicutt. who was manager of the Manukau Milling and Trading Company, which erected a steam sawmill at Cornwallis in 1842. The plant, which included the first steam engine in New Zealand, was brought from London in the Osprey. Mrs. Lawrence was married in St. Andrew's Church, Epsom, in 1852, to Colour-Sergeant Henry Lawrence, of the 58th Regiment, who, after the war against Hone Heke, settled in the Manukau district as a farmer. Mr. Lawrence died five years ago at the ago of 90.
