Gertrude (Collins) Winn is a part of US Black heritage.

Gertrude Hortense (Collins) Winn was born on 29 Nov 1908 in Austin, Travis County, Texas, daughter of Dee Gabriel Collins (1863 - 1926) and Donnie Gladys (Sauls) Collins (1869 - 1933). She was the fifteenth child of eighteen children, grew up around Austin, in the Pilot Knob Community and attended the public schools in Travis County.

In the 1920 census Gertrude (age 11) was the daughter of Gabriel D Callins in Justice Precinct 6, Travis, Texas.^[2]

Aunt Gert met and married James Winn.<^[3][4] To this union one son, Thomas Winn was born. Aunt Gert was known to friends and acquaintances as a kind and gentle person with a winsome disposition and unusual insight and vision. Aunt Gert will be remembered as a very caring and giving person. She will also be remembered for her sense of humor, words of wisdom and her zest for living life to the fullest.

In the 1930 census Gertrude (age 21) was the wife of James Wynn at 955 Birch St, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.^[5]

In the 1940 census Gertrude (age 31), Servant, was the wife of James L Winn in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California.^[6]

In the 1950 census Gertrude (age 40) was the divorced head of household in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.^[7] Aunt Gert's death on June 11, 1998,^[8][9] closed the final chapter in Dee and Donnie Collins family book for their children's generation. She was the last surviving child of the eighteen children in her family. Aunt Gert's death also closed her own family book. Her husband James Winn, and their Son Tommy Winn, both preceded her in death.

She accepted Christ at an early age. She loved her God and demonstrated that love in her relationships with family and friends.

Aunt Gert is survived by two very special nieces; Carrie Collins Lewis, and Jewel Westbrook, both of Los Angeles, California, numerous nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.

Aunt Gert lived eighty-nine fruitful years, enriching the lives of her family, friends and others whose lives she touched.
