A well-known jockey for many years, Robert James ('Bobby') Collins died in Townsville on Friday evening after a short illness. The late Bobby Collins was a native of Townsville, 66 years of age. Deceased was a prominent rider In the north in his earlier years, and rode many horses for the late Mr. Den Mclnnes. He rode last at Cleveland about 25 years ago. He leaves four brothers, Bill. Hugh and Jack Townsville, and Tom (Ayr), and one sister, Mrs. A. Luckman. The funeral takes place to-morrow.[7]
There is no evidence that Robert ever married or had children.
It is assumed that the person named James Matthew or Robert James are the same son of Patrick and Mary Brennan. On Patrick's death register record(1896) there is a "James" and on Mary's (1922) "James Matthew" between William and Patrick. However, in 1948 the deaths register, funeral notice and grave record refer to a brother of the same birth year as Robert James. There is no 1882 birth record in Queensland for a Robert James Collins. There is no reference to a James Matthew as another brother amongst his siblings in Robert's funeral notice.
Robert's sister Maggie McCauley died in 1921. Her funeral notice lists a Mr. R. Collins and Mr. J. Collins, who is likely John.
