Biography

Mossie Cook died young.

Mossie Elizzabell Cook was born on August 22, 1899 in Dot, Logan County, Kentucky, United States, daughter of John Anderson Cook (~1871–1911) and Nettie Belle Baker (1880–1911).

The Baptist Children's Home, Williamson County, Tennessee, sign-in register is the best primary source for Mossie's middle name. For the longest time I thought it was "Elizabeth" as inscribed on the cemetery marker; however, that seems to be incorrect. Both the register and memorial marker are pictured to the right. Notice also, that Mossie was born in Logan County, Kentucky, the birth place of Robert Sallee James, the father of Jesse James. Mossie and Jesse James were second cousins once removed. Mapquest says Lickskillet, on Whippoorwill Creek, a tributary of the Red River, and Dot, on Red River, are an eleven minute drive from one another on today's roads. In 1900, Mossie was living in Robertson County, Tennessee: John A Cook (29), Nettie Cook (20), and Mossie E Cook (9/12). [1]

In 1910, the family was still living in Robertson County: John A Cook (39), Nettie Cook (28), Mossie L Cook (10), Lucy Cook (5), Lucile Cook (5), John Cook (2), and Will J Merrifield (42). [2]

The doctor tended to her from 12 Nov 1917 to the day she died, 19 Mar 1918, at the "Davidson County T.B. Hospital" in Bordeaux, Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. She was 18 years of age, still (as evidenced by the memorial plaque) under the care of the Baptist Children's Home, and was buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Nashville. [3]
