Ebenezer was born in 1749. He passed away on 19 Mar 1833 in Onondaga, Onondaga, New York. Although his surname was spelled "Covil" on the monument placed in the Walnut Grove Cemetery by the D.A.R.,[1] his military records, probate records and censuses show that his surname was also spelled "Covill". In fact, the spellings "Covill" and "Covil" were used interchangeably in his intestate file.
1820 Onondaga, Onondaga, New York Ebenezer's household consisted of himself (45 years and older); 1 female, most likely Ann (45 years and older); 1 male (aged 18-26 as there is no tick mark in the 16-18 bracket); 1 female (aged 16-26) and 1 male (under 10 years).[2]
1830 Onondaga, Onondaga, New York Ebenezer lived next door to his son, Edward Shipman Covill at this time. Ebenezer's household consisted of himself (aged 80-90); 1 male and 1 female (aged 20-30) and 1 male (under 5 years).[3]
Excerpt From His Grandson, Hiram Coville's Obituary: Ebenezer Coville, was a soldier in the Revolution, having served during the entire war, and was one of that gallant band of veterans who early settled upon the military tract, dedicated to, settled and defended by the soldiers resting near him in the historic cemetery at Onondaga are many comrades and old neighbors who drew their allotments for service in the war. Captain James Beebe, Justice Johnson, Captain Sherman, Roderick Adams, Jonathan Strong, William Evans, Daniel Peck and other such men gave character to the section.[4]
