Biography

Rachel was born in 1812 in South Carolina.[1] According to family legend, she was the daughter of the Reverend James Cumbie and his first wife, Mary Daire or Deare (no citations have been found as yet).

Rachel, according to her answer on the 1900 census, married William Brooks Glenn in 1840 [2] with whom she had at least eight children. In 1850, [3] the family lived in Benton, Alabama. William was listed as an "overseer." Their children included Mary, Adolphus, George, James, and Frances L.

In 1860 [4], William was a farmer in Calhoun, Alabama. Listed children were: Mary, Adolphus, George, David James, Frances Lavenia, Annie, and William Augustus.

At age 87, the widowed Rachel lived in the home of her son, William A. Glenn, [5] in Polkville, Calhoun, Alabama.

She passed away after 1900.
