Biography
Helena is said to have been born on 5 March 1700[1] and baptized on 18 April 1700.[2] It is likely that she was born in 1700, but no record has been identified to substantiate these specific dates. No baptism records for New Utrecht, Long Island, New York, are believed to survive from that time period.
She was the daughter of Nijs Teunissen and Helena Cortelyou.
Helena married Frederick van Lewe (a.k.a. van Liew, van Lieuwen) on 9 March 1717.[3][4] They moved from Long Island to New Jersey, where Frederick had been given considerable acreage by his father. The births of their children were recorded in a Van Liew family bible as:[5]
