Jonathan Jr was considered a master engineer, inventor and builder in his time
Jonathan Jr married Nancy Ann Barker also of Rhode Island. They were the parents of 7 documented children. Jonathan was 69 years old when he passed in 1824. He is buried in the Putnam Cemetery in Devola, Washington County, Ohio.

After consulting with fashion historians and based on his own historical research on clothing of the late 18th century Mr Sawtelle determined that the age of the man in the portrait was most likely that of Jonathan Devol Jr (1755 - 1824) and not Jonathan Devol Sr (1711 - 1782).
