Biography

Stephen Eugene Dodge was born on 23 Oct. 1866 at Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co., Michigan, USA.^[1] He appeared on the census of 11 June 1870 in the household of his parents at Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, Michigan.^[2] He appeared on the census of 8 June 1880 in the household of his parents, Stephen Hudson Dodge and Adelaide Cynthia "Addie" (Perry) Dodge, at Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co., Michigan. ^[3]

He married Susan Sanders, daughter of Josiah Sanders and Caroline (Hinikley) Sanders,, circa 1892 at Michigan.^[1][4]

He was a jeweler when he and Susan appeared on the census of 7 June 1900 in the household of Susan's mother, Caroline (Hinikley) Saunders, at 144 Huron St., Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co., Michigan. ^[4] He appeared on the census of 20 April 1910 in the household of his parents at 304 Ellis St., Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co., Michigan.^[5] He was a salesman for an optical company when he appeared on the census of 5 Jan. 1920 in the household of his sister, Jerusha Lorette 'Jennie' Dodge, at 304 Ellis St., Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co., Michigan.^[6] He was a commercial salesman of optical goods when he appeared on the census of 7 April 1930 in the household of his sister at 304 Washtenaw, Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co., Michigan.^[7] He was a traveling salesman for a glass company when he appeared on the census of 14 April 1940 in the household of his sister at 3021 Washtenaw, Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, Michigan. While his name is listed as James that is an error in the census. ^[8]

Stephen died on 14 Oct. 1948 at Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, Michigan, at age 81 and was buried at Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, Michigan. His memorial has some biographical material, a photo of his headstone and links to those of family members.^[9]
