Biography

Sarah was the daughter of Owen Donougho or Donohue of Ireland.[1][2]

She married Edward Fudge on 26 October 1857 at St John's, Kapunda, South Australia.[2]

She died on 23 April 1897, aged 60, in Bagots Gap, near Kapunda in South Australia.[3] A death notice in the Advertiser recorded:

FUDGE.—On the 23rd April, at Bagot's Gap, near Kapunda, Sarah, the dearly-beloved wife of Edward Fudge, in her 60th year. Melbourne papers please copy.[4]

Research Notes

The record of her marriage in 1857 records her father as "Owen Donougho".[2]

Her husband's obituary in 1911 described her as "Sarah, the only daughter of the late Owen Donohue, of Ireland."[1]

The baptism records for her children at Kapunda spell her surname as "Donohoe" and "Donohue".

The Biographical Index of South Australians. 1836 to 1885 includes entries for:

  • "DONOHUE Thomas Owen par: Thos b: c1839 d. 11.2.1901 bd: Clare SA occ: Butcher ..."
  • "DONOHOE Owen b: c1823 GAL. IRL arr: 1863 Morning Star occ; Agricultural Labourer."

There was a death of a Thomas Donohue, son of Owen Donohue and Margaret Clancy, at Melbourne East Hospital in 1897. He was age 53.[5]

There is also a death notice in 1897 for a Mary O'Halloran in the Adelaide suburb of Paddington. She is described as "second daughter of the late Owen O'Donohoe, Glencolumbaille, County Clare, Ireland."[6] Nothing has been found to suggest this is the same Owen [O']Donohoe. Sarah was said to have been the only daughter.
