A death date of 25 October 1739 in Stoughton, (then Suffolk County), Province of Mass. Bay, is also given without a source.[9]
Find a Grave lists a burial in the Canton Corner Cemetery, but there is no gravestone or source cited to support this memorial.[10]
Looking for evidence in the Stoughton records, the only records in the Stoughton VRs[11] for a Joseph Estie (and variations) are for a later person:
p. 65 marriage of Joseph Estie Jr. to Hannah Callaham 10 Jul 1755 both "of Stoughton" [int. 26 Apr 1755 p. 77]
p. 75 birth of dau. of above - Hannah b. 1756 14 Apr
p. 81 birth of son of above - Joseph Estie b. 27 Feb 1758
Stoughton was settled in 1713 and officially incorporated in 1726, from the southwestern portion of the large town of Dorchester. At its founding, it included the current towns of Sharon (which separated in 1765), Canton (which separated in 1797) and Avon (which separated in 1888).[12]
