Biography

This profile is speculative, because of the nature of the nexus of Slayden/Slaton families involved with Everetts traceable to the marriage of Mildred (Everett) Slayden to Joseph Slayden . But the will cited below mentioning "Milly Everett" almost certainly does not refer to that Mildred, who was almost certainly long dead as Milly Slayden. Joseph and Millie (Everett) Slayden named sons Daniel Everett and William Everett Slayden, and later generations show Travis Everett Slayden (see the Will details below). On the other hand, the Elisha Slaton with whom a John Everett resides in Caswell County, North Carolina, cannot be directly connected (as of today) to Joseph Slayden except as a possible great-nephew.

A specialist in Everett research, not a gedcom or ancestry tree uploader, is needed, for this John Everett.

John was born about 1757 or 1767. He is the son of Daniel Everett and Frances Everett. This information, unverified, was entered by Chris Varney, Monday, July 15, 2013. It needs citational support.

The John Everett living with Elisha Slaton cited below might be this man, and was apparently very wealthy. The Elisha Slaton he is living with is calculated to be Elias D. Slaton/Slayton, who married Martha W. Burch. 11 November 1842, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. [1] He in turn is a son of Daniel Slayden and Dosia Dodson. [2] The alignment of this Daniel to a father William Slayden is genealogically strong, and to a grandfather Daniel Slayden as well, but identifying that grandfather in a tree is problematic. The ancestral path of the Elisha Slaton below leads not to Joseph Slayden who married Millie Everett, but to his alleged brother Daniel .

As stated, a specialist in Everett research, not a gedcom or ancestry tree uploader, is needed.

NEWSPAPER: -transcribed by Nola Duffy - From the Weekly Standard, Raleigh, North Carolina published 26 January 1859 STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA. CASWELL COUNTY. In Caswell Superior Court of Equity, November Term, 185? [ 8 or 9] --- Samuel Harrison, Joseph Totten and Daniel Everett, Executors of John Everett,. dec'd., Complainants against Nancy Everett, David Caldwell and wife Fanny, William Everett, Milly Everett, George Everett, David Everett, William Owen and others, Defendants. ORDER OF PUBLICATION. In this cause, it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that Nancy Everett, David Caldwell and wife Fanny, William Everett, Milly Everett, George Everett, David Everett., William Stamps and wife Sally, James Everett, Agnes Furguson. Borland Everett. Signor Everett, John Everett, William Owen and the other children of Sarah Owen, whose names are unknown - - the children of Signor Everett, whose names are unknown - - the children of Travis Everett, whose names are unknown - - the children of William Everett, whose names are unknown - - the children of Skiss Cornelius and wife , Margeret, whose names are unknown - - and the children of Mildred , whose names are unknown, with the exception of the said Agnes Ferguson, all reside beyond the limits of the State: it is therefore ordered by the Court that publication be made for six successive weeks in the "Milton Chronicle," "North-Carolina Standard," "Washington Union," in some paper published in Milledgeville, Georgia; in Nashville, Tennessee; in Frankfort, Kentucky; in Austin, Texas; in Jefferson City, Missouri; in Springfield, Illinois - - notifying the said defendants of the filing of this bill ; and that unless they appear at the next term of this Court, to be held at the Court House in Yanceyville, on the 6th Monday after the 4th Monday in March, 1859, then and there to plead, answer or demur to said bill, the same will be taken pro confesso and heard ex parte as to them. Witness, Thomas A. Donoho, Clerk and Master of said Court, at office, the 6th Monday after the 4th Monday in September, 1858 . T. A. DONOHO, C. M. E December 10, 1858.[4]

COMMENT: All of the above presumably is to protect the estate against claims from these various probable descendants of John's probable father Daniel, since these locations for newspapers are indicative: Milledgeville was in fact the capitol of Georgia from 1804 until 1867. It is strongly suspected that the Mildred mentioned, was Millie Slayden wife of Joseph Slayden, who were the parents of an Agnes who appears to have married a Mr. Weir, and then a Mr. Ferguson. They were also the parents of, among others, William Everett Slayden and the name Travis Everett Slayden is also found, in middle Tennessee records.
