Joseph Field, Jr. was born June 9, 1689, in Hatfield, Hampshire county, Massachusetts, the son of Joseph Field and Joanna (Wyatt) Field. [1][2]
Deacon Joseph Field was one of the first forty settlers of the town of Sunderland, Massachusetts, living on lot number 6 on the west side, and also obtaining lot number 12 on the east side, where his son, Joseph Field, III afterward lived. [3]
On September 13, 1716, in Hatfield, Hampshire county, Massachusetts, Joseph married Mary Smith. [4] daughter of Joseph Smith, also of Hatfield. They had ten children, all recorded in Sunderland:
Joseph died February 4, 1754 and was buried in the Riverside cemetery, in Sunderland. His wife, Mary (Smith) Field died March 9, 1767 and was buried with him. [16]
Researcher's Notes
The Find A Grave memorial for Joseph Field, Jr. indicates that he was born in Sunderland, however there an image that may be viewed on Family Search at the link cited in the sources clearly shows that his birth is recorded in Hatfield. Both Hatfield and Sunderland were located in Hampshire county during Joseph's lifetime. Franklin County was created on 24 June 1811 from the northern third of Hampshire County.
