Biography

Emily Georgina Fitzpatrick was born on October 27, 1877 in Wexford, York, Ontario, Canada to George Fitzpatrick and Mary Jane Brooks. Emily was the sixth and youngest child of George and Mary. ^[1]

In 1881, Emily lived with her parents and five siblings in York, York, Ontario, Canada. They were Irish Methodists. Her father was a farmer. ^{[2] [3]}

Emily married Lewis James Johnstone, son of Robert Johnstone and Janet McLeod, on October 18, 1903 in York, York, Ontario. ^{[4] [5]}

On July 3, 1909, their son, William James Johnstone, was born in Hibbert, Perth, Ontario, Canada. ^[6]

At the age of 47, Emily immigrated to the United States via Detroit, Wayne, Michigan on September 12, 1924 with the intent to reside in the U.S. permanently and become a citizen. Her physical description was 5' 5" tall with brown hair and blue eyes. ^[7]

In 1930, Emily and Lewis and their son, William, resided in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan where Lewis worked as a carpenter at the auto body plant. They had six lodgers who also worked at the auto plant. ^[8]

In 1940, Emily and Lewis' household in Cambridge Township, Lenawee, Michigan included their son, William, daughter-in-law, Lorena, and grandsons, Douglas and Charles. Lewis (James) changed professions and was now a farmer. ^[9]

Emily died on February 20, 1948 and was memorialized in Zion-Wexford Cemetery, Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. ^[10]
