Obed Foote was the tenth of 13 children born to Moses Foote and Ruth Butler. He grew up in the part of Waterbury, Connecticut later known as Plymouth. As the youngest of four sons, he stayed home to care for his widowed mother while his four older brothers David, Moses, Aaron and Ebenezer joined the Revolutionary army. m Foot[1]
On December 3, 1761, Obed married Mary Todd, the daughter of the pastor of Plymouth Church, Rev. Samuel Todd. He was 20 and she was 19. Together they had 11 children, all of whom grew up and married. Obed and Mary's oldest child was Asenath, born on September 19, 1762, and their youngest was Obed, born on April 27, 1797.[2]
"In May, 1780, Obed Foote, with his mother and his young family, removed to Rowe, Mass., where he purchased a large tract of land (about 1,000 acres). In 1784, he removed to Gill, Mass., where he purchased the farm on which he lived until his death in 1797. " [3]
Additional information on two children of Obed and Mary Foote: "Bernice son to Obed Foot" was baptized in 1766 at the First Congregational Church of Plymouth. [4]
"Sedate daughter to Obed Foot" was baptized 1 May in 1768 at the First Congregational Church of Plymouth.[5]
