Biography

Sir Thomas Forster, Esq. of Etherstone,[1][2][3] (fl. 25 Oct 1415), lived during the reign of Henry V, (20 Mar 1413 – 31 Aug 1422).[4]

He's the son of:

  • Thomas Forster (d. Henry IV 30 Sep 1399/20 Mar 1413)
  • and Elizabeth de Etherstone. Issue:[4].

He was probably born during the late 1300s ... if his father died during the reign of Henry IV (30 Sep 1399 - 20 Mar 1413), and he lived during the reign of Henry V (20 Mar 1413 – 31 Aug 1422).[4]

Siblings

  • Robert (living 1490)[4]
  • Rowland Forster of Norham (d.1497). Issue: 2 sons[4]

Marriage

Thomas married a daughter of Fetherstonhaugh, who supposedly had 22 children. While some pedigrees do not state her given name Foster (1871), calls her "Elizabeth. " It's unclear as to how he arrived at this conclusion.

m. [--Elizabeth--?], dau. of ... Fetherstonhaugh or Featherstonhaug of Stanhope. Issue: 22[5][1][2][3][6]

  • and 19 more sons ...[2]
  • (dau) UNKNOWN [Elizabeth?].[8]
m. Gerard Shaftoe (Shafto) of Bavington.

Military

Foster (1871), states that Thomas also fought at the Battle of Agincourt (25 Oct 1415), under Percy ... but he does not say which one. Hotspur died at Shrewsbury in 1403,[9] so he could have been a contemporary of his son, Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland (03 Feb 1393 – 22 May 1455).

The bottom line is that Elizabeth is not having a child at 80 years old.

Forster-940 and Forster-144 seem to be duplicates and should be merged?

The problem is that there's not much proof. It's more of a case of a missing generation that becomes glaring about this point and again at Roger of Hunsdon. It's also the case that Richardson has nixed this family from the Magna Carta line because Elwerdon's heritage/marriage into this family is disputed. So getting too creative would probably just introduce more errors on top of the old... But I'm trying to hunt down extras...
