Josias Gambling arrived in Virginia Colony before September 1636. He was claimed as a headright by Thomas Gaskins, of Accomack County on 9 September 1636. Also named as persons transported by Gaskins: Josias Gaskins, Eliz. Gaskins, Alice Gaskins, Mary Gaskins.[1]
Note: Josias Gambling's daughter Elizabeth married Thomas Gaskins about 1624 in England. The persons with surname Gaskins in the above entry are possibly Gaskin's wife Elizabeth (Gambling) Gaskin and three of their children - Josias, Alice and Mary.
Only one confirmed source has been found thus far for Josias Gamelyn/Gambling - record of his transport to Virginia by Thomas Gaskins in Nugent. A couple of other sources refer to Nugent's entry, but add nothing new. There are several records in England for Josias Gambling for marriages, birth of children, etc. It was not possible for me to confirm which, if any, of those records apply to this Josias. No record has been located in Virginia after his arrival about 1636. (Strutton-11 17:54, 3 July 2022 (UTC))
The only record found gives his surname as "Gambling." (Strutton-11 17:54, 3 July 2022 (UTC))
