Jean Baptiste Gariepy was a Canadian First Peoples and member of the Metis Nation.
Jean Baptiste Gariepy (b. 1838)Jean Baptiste Gariepy was the son of François Gariepy and Louise Gladue. He was born at St. François Xavier. They were a buffalo hunting family. His father and mother were enumerated as Family #183 in the 1850 Pembina census. He received Métis scrip under the Red Lake and Pembina Treaty. After 1865, Baptiste lived on the Souris River, and after July 15, 1875 at Duck Lake. He was elected as a St. Laurent, Saskatchewan council member in 1873, as was his older brother Pierre Gariepy (b. 1826)1. In 1856 he married Marie Fagnant (b. 1839) at St. Joseph, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Jean Baptiste Fagnant and Josephte Monet dit Belhumeur. Jean Baptiste and Marie Fagnant were band members of the Turtle Mountain Band and took treaty annuity payments from 1868 to 1870.

Marie Gariepy, born 1857, married Antoine Paul.
Rose Gariepy, born 1859, married Paul Leveille, the son of Louis Leveille and Marguerite Gervais, in 1879 at Fort Benton.
Elise Gariepy, born 1859, married Maxime Lavallee, the son of Pierre Ayotte dit Lavallee and Marie Plante in 1876 at St. François Xavier
After Marie died, he married Helene Beardy at Duck Lake. Helene was from Chief Beardy’s family. The children of Baptiste and Helene were: Baptiste, Andre, Maria, Elise, Joseph, Roger, Napoleon, and Rose (Rosalie and Josephte died as infants). They lived at Wood Mountain after March 15, 1885. Jean Baptiste was active in the 1885 Resistance at Batoche.

"Baptiste was the son of François Gariépy and Louise Gladue. He and his wife were members of the Turtle Mountain Band and took annuity payments from 1868-1870 (Ref: Gail Morin. Turtle Mountain Chippewa, Pembina Band; Annuity Payments and Census. Quinton Publications, n.d. p. 38). He married Marie Fagnant then Helene Beardy of Chief Beardy’s family. He was an elected St. Laurent (South Saskatchewan) Council member in 1873."
