Research Notes

As noted in an earlier footnote, the c1710 birth year in the datafield as of 6 May 2023 is a compromise between c1708 and c1711 in the two profiles merged on that date. The birth year from another profile was about 1700.

The information included on the U. S. Sons Of the American Revolution Application lists he passed away in Stafford County, Virginia but several family sites record he passed in Loudoun County, Virginia. Some say he was actually born in Stafford County, Virginia in 1708 not New Kent County, Virginia in 1711. Since I used the source from the U. S. Sons of the American Revolution Application that is the information I have listed [died in Stafford; born in New Kent in 1711]. More research is needed.

His 1730 marriage in "New Kent, Fairfax County" does not fit. The county seat of today's New Kent County is New Kent.[4] Fairfax County did not exist in 1730.[5]

New Kent County was created from York County in 1654.[5] "Loudon"[6] was formed from Fairfax in 1757. Fairfax County was created in 1742 from Prince William County, which had been created in 1730/1 from King George County and Stafford County. Stafford County had been created in 1664, but tracing its origins leads to "the Indian District of Chickacoan (1645)", with no connection to New Kent County or York County. However, looking at the county formation maps, the land where Loudoun County is today was once included in Stafford County (when created in 1664).[5]

support (aside from the unreliable Ancestry source of Yates Publishing's "U.S. and International Marriage Records...") needed that his wife's maiden name was Catlett. Other sources indicate it was Ware (but lack support themselves). For example, from https://www.warefamilyhistory.com/index.html -
4. Elizabeth Ware, b. c1716 m. Edward Garrett, son of John Garrett and Frances Buckner. Their son Edward Garrett, Jr. m. Ann West Owsley, and they named a son Nicholas Ware Garrett.

update - Alsey has been detached.

Comments on Elizabeth Catlett's profile & Alsey Garrett's would indicate that Alsey is not their daughter. If no objections, I'll detach her profile from theirs.

update - merge completed

Garrett-12532 and Garrett-872 appear to represent the same person because: I just finished merging duplicate profiles for his wife - these duplicates also need to be merged, as do the duplicate profiles for his parents. Thanks!

Garrett-3743 and Garrett-872 appear to represent the same person because: These two are the same; am proposing a merge of his father as well.
