    • Barend Leendert was born in 1799. He was the son of Barend Gildenhúijsen and Maria Magdalena Maree. He passed away in 1841. When Barend Leendert Gildenhuys was born in 1799, in Caledon, Cape of Good Hope Colony, his father, Barend Gildenhuysen, was 24 and his mother, Maria Magdalina Marais, was 19. He married Gertruida Johanna Badenhorst on 21 April 1822, in Caledon. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 26 March 1841, in Stellenbosch, Cape Colony, at the age of 42. [4]
