He married Mary Johnson, of Norwich, Connecticut, daughter of Ebenezer and Deborah (Champion) Johnson, in Norwich on June 2, 1763. They had nine children.[1][2][4]
Following their marriage they settled in Norwich, where their first and probably second child were born. They purchased land in Lancaster, Massachusetts, November 1, 1769, and appear to have resided in Lancaster, or Bolton, from 1769 to 1772. On January 1, 1772, they sold land in Lancaster, and are listed as "of Bolton" in a document dated November 11, 1772, in which they sold "a parcel of land ... in Norwich." This appears to mark their return to Bolton. In 1778 they purchased land in Coventry, Connecticut.[2]
David Greenleaf died in Coventry on December 11, 1800; he was 63 years of age.[1][5]
Eliza "Nabby" Greenleaf, born March 22, 1777; died young.[6]
William Greenleaf, born December 12, 1778; married Mary Williams, of Hartford, Connecticut.[6]

Research Notes
Birthplace: James Greenleaf says that David was born in Bolton, Massachusetts.[1] However, the birth of David Greenleaf "July ye 13th 1737," is recorded in the records of Lancaster, Massachusetts.[3] This does make sense given that the town of Bolton was later incorporated on June 24, 1738, from parts of Lancaster and other towns.
Parents: James Greenleaf says that David was the son of Dr. Daniel Greenleaf and Silence Marsh.[1] However, his Lancaster birth record cites that he was the "Son of Daniel & Elisabeth Greenleaf."[3]
