Dirk was a son of Abraham Groot and Rachel De Graaf. He was baptized in the Reformed Dutch Church of Schenectady, New York, on 29 April 1753. [1]
He married Eve Vrooman. Their daughter Rachel was born 23 November 1804.[2]
According to his gravestone in the Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery, Derick A. Groot died 15 March 1811 "in the 58th year of his age."[3]
Derick A. Groot "of the Town of Niskeuny in the county of Shonacady" made a will that bears the date of 29 November 1811 (this date is inconsistent with the date of death inscribed on his gravestone); it was proved 7 July 1812. He bequeathed the income of his real and personal estate to his "beloved wife Eve" for the duration of his widowhood and bequeathed the estate to his daughter Rachel. He also directed that fifty dollars be paid to "my Brothers Daughter Alada." Executors were "my Beloved Brother Cornl Groot" and Dorick C. Groot.[4]
