Biography

Read Ann Hannaway's story - sentenced beyond the seas

Ann Nash, widow, died aged 71 years on 16 Dec 1831 in Sorell. [1]

NOTE: different dates. Mrs Ann Nash born about 1766 died aged 63 years on 12 Dec 1829 and was buried in Sorell Henry Street Anglican, Sorell, Tasmania. [2]

Event: Arrival Tasmania[3] Place of Conviction. Middlesex[4] Items stolen the previous evening from the house of Mr and Mrs Hilton of Silver Street, Whitefriars. Receives stolen goods. 30 Dec 1788. London, England. Trial transcript indicates she was staying at Hole in the Wall passage at 2 Baldwin's Gardens (near Chancery Lane). Defence witness Margaret Richardson of Marybone (Marylebone) knew her since was a baby. Convicted & sentenced to 14 years transportation. 14 Jan 1789. Old Bailey, London, England. [5] Arrested 30 Dec 1788 and no mention of pregnancy made at her trial on 14 Jan 1789. She may not have known she was pregnant then or got pregnant in prison, thus delaying her departure from planned Lady Juliana on 29 Jul 1789 to the Neptune departing 1790. Departure 19 Jan 1790. England - on the Neptune (Second Fleet). On the Neptune - 2nd Fleet. Arrival Jun 1790. Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. [6]

Occupation: Charwoman - as per evidence given by Mrs Woodcock (washerwoman) of Snow's Fields (Bermondsey?) who had employed her at times in the past 3 years. 1788 London, England.
