Son of Henry Harington of Kelston, gent. (by his wife Mary Backwell). He matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford 17 Dec. 1745, ae. 18; B.A. 1749; M.A. 1752; B&D Med. 1762, practiced at Wells 1753-1761, mayor of Bath 1793 (Alumni Oxonienses).
In 1795 he was a founder of the Bath Harmonic Society. Dr. Harington wrote poetry and many tunes, both sacred and humorous, being known as a composer of "glees"
