Biography
Mary Jane Hemingway (married name Thomas) was born on 21 August 1874 in Broadwater, Victoria, Australia, the daughter of Jessie Hemingway and James Hemingway.[1][2]
When still very young, Mary met Ned Kelly. He made a call on her family's farm. Mary's mother baked the Kelly Gang some bread, and they left behind a gold sovereign in thanks.[3]
In 1903, Mary married Arthur Hector Thomas in Victoria.[4] The couple moved to New Zealand. Their children were:
