Ray was born in 1934. He was the first child of Albert Hitchcock and the 10th child of Edith Land. He had nine older half brothers and sisters.
He was born when Edith was 40 years old and he was born with Downs Syndrome. He lived with his mother and father on the family farm in Omokoroa, and then later with his mother in the little township of Omokoroa itself. His father passed away in 1952 and his mother in 1980.
He passed away in 1993 at the age of 58, unmarried.
