James was born in 1785. He is the son of John Hodgson.
Supposedly, James Hudson and his common law wife, Caroline Goodwin, had over sixteen children together.
"James R Hodgson Death from Robb Gorr: In my article about the "Hudson Fortune" I quoted an article called "Fort Coulonge Claimants to Alleged Vast Estate" that had appeared in The Pembroke Standard-Observer dated 12 April 1934 (page 10) in which it stated that 'Governor' Hudson had died "132 years ago [therefore circa 1802], just three days before his wife". Later in the article I debunked that family myth by claiming that the teller (grandson George Lavoie) had probably mistaken the 'Governor' in the family story for Robert Goodwin, the originator of the inheritance [the "fortune"] who had died in 1805. I also stated that some sources believe that James died in 1826, at the time when his debts were rescinded by the HBCo [this was actually his father John Hodgson], while other sources agree that he died within days of his wife Caroline. Her death is re! corded in HBCo papers as 23 August 1834. Further, to support that theory, local newspapers had reported a cholera epidemic in the upper Ottawa Valley between June and September of 1834."[1]
