Anne (Anny) Johnson was born about 1782 in Virginia. Family records show that she was the oldest of 11 known children born to John Johnson and Ann (last name unknown) . By 1798, she was living with her parents in or near Madison, Kentucky, with at least five younger siblings.
On the 15th of June 1798, when Anne was about 16 years old, she married [Wade-2436|William Wade] in Madison, Kentucky. He was 22. Kentucky marriage records include the original of a handwritten scrap of paper signed by Anne's father and witnessed by two local men, which reads as follows: (keeping original spelling and capitalization, no punctuation)
