Benjamin Johnston was born about 1821. He was married to Elizabeth Shultz. In 1860, the census lists them in Round Grove Township: Benjamin Johnston age 37 Elizabeth age 32 Adeline age 5 Alton age 4 Elvinale ? age 3 Sarah age 1 ^[1]

In 1870, they had the following children:

Adaline, age 16 Alton W, age 14 Ali, age 12 Savanna, age 10 Alma, age 8 Jacob, age 7 Edward, age 4 Clarissa, age 3

Elizabeth's sister, Barbara Ann Shultz was also living in their household. ^[2]
