Biography

Charles Weaver Kemper, son of Tilman Kemper and Dinah Hitt, was born April 1, 1797 in Fayette County, Kentucky. On September 10, 1817 in Gallatin County, Kentucky[1] he married Philadelphia Yancey. After Philadelphia died, Charles married Mary Ann Neville about 1861 probably in Owen County, Kentucky. Charles Kemper died about 1877 probably in Owen County, Kentucky but it could have been Henry County, Kentucky. His burial details are currently unknown[2]

Note: Owen County, Kentucky was formed from Gallatin County, Kentucky in 1819.

The family of Charles Weaver Kemper varies a lot depending on what tree you look at. Many of the tree's have him married twice 1) Philadelphia Yancey and 2) Mary Ann Neville. The issue is that these trees try to assign all the children living with Charles in Mary in the 1870 census as his children which is simply just not the case. He is still married to Philadelphia in 1850, and a widow in 1860. So only the youngest three of children are his.

Mary Neville is still unmarried and living with her father in 1860 Census of Henry County, Kentucky so she cannot be the mother either. This means that the children are most likely, cousins, nieces/nephews, etc that are living with Charles. I will update here if I can figure out who they are.

Looking at the Genealogy of the Kemper family in the United States by Willis M Kemper[3], the list of children of Charles Kemper confirms what is put together from the 1850 and 1860 census for the most part. There are a few other children, that died young, and were not captured by any of the censuses. I have used this book a lot and have found very few errors, and the errors I have found are from omission or just a typo(I have been looking only on the lines that relate to the Hitt family).
