This would seem to pertain to the discussion of Ebenezer Knapp's two wives: In 1956, Alfred Averill Knapp, author of the 1953 Nicholas Knapp Genealogy that appears to be the primary source for his page, issued a Supplement to the Nicholas Knapp Genealogy that can be viewed and downloaded on familysearch.org. In it, he corrects himself on the subject of Ebenezer Knapp's marriage:

Ebenezer was married only once and then to Elizabeth Benedict, b. 1706, Danbury, dau. of Thomas Benedict & Elizabeth Hickox or Hickock. After Thomas Benedict died, his widow m. a Samuel Smith. Her children may have taken the name Smith which led to this error. Thomas Benedict was son of Samuel Benedict & Rebecca Andrews. Rebecca Andrews was dau. of Francis Andrews & Anna Smith. Anna Smith was dau. of Giles Smith, of Hartford, Conn."

[Note: The idea Francis Andrews' wife Anna was a daughter of Giles Smith appears to have been disproved; see Giles Smith (abt.1603-abt.1669) and Ann (Unknown) Smith (1620-aft.1664).]

At any rate, if the 1953 book by Alfred Averill Knapp is to be trusted enough to be the main source for this page, then it would seem that the same author's later supplement should be trusted enough to revise it. This would also affect the page for Rachel (Knapp) Spaulding (1737 - 1821), who is currently shown on Wikitree as a daughter of Ebenezer Knapp and "mother unknown".

Since Ebenezer married 2nd time to another Elizabeth, it would seem that the 2nd wife Eliz is the one that died in 1795 and the 1st died prior to 2nd marriage around 1745. Has anyone got any documentation of his wives deaths since they have same name and there is also another Elizabeth Finch Knapp married to the other Ebenezer Knapp?
