Notes posted by unknown contributor on Family Search profile from: Knouse Genealogy, Lukas Knouse (1633-1713), of Dudelshein,,Germany, and his American Descendents "Daniel Knauss was one of the early settlers of Weisenberg Township, Northampton (now Lehigh) Co., Pa., and was a prominent man of affairs. He was a sickle-maker and a farmer and at the time of his death was the owner of about 650 acres of land in Macungie and Weisenberg Townships. In the latter township he also operated a grist mill as early as 1785. He was one of the signers to a petition presented on 20 Mch. 1753 to the court in Northampton County to establish Weisenberg Township. On 21 Dec 1774 he was elected by the freeholders of his county at a meeting help at Easton, Pa., as a committeeman from his township on the "Committee of Observation and Inspection" for the county with reference to associators as provided by the Contineltal Congress and was again returned as a committeeman 2 Oct 1775. In pursuance of an act of General Assembly passed 13 June 1777, he subscribed to the oath of allegiance before Peter Meyer, Justice of the Peace, 18 Aug. 1777. He enlisted in Capt. Adam Diehl's Company, Northampton County Militia , as a substitute for Christop Sunday, serving from July 15 to Sept. 1781 and in Capt. Adam Stahler's Company as a substitute for Jacob Smether 14 Sept. to 12 Nov. 1781."

Data from The Pennsylvania-German: In the year 1734 until 1735, emigrant trains came from Oley and Goshenhoppen to the Kittatinny Valley by the Indian path crossing the Lehigh Mountain through the Rittenhouse gap. The emigrants were attracted by the fine forests and clear water which accounts for the early settlements of Weisenberg and Lynn Valleys. The Ziegel Church stands between the extremes of Longswamp and Lynn Valleys. Many of the emigrants settled on the slopes and dales of the ridge on which the church stands. Emigrants held religious services without a pastor in their log cabins from 1735 to 1745. When they had no schoolmaster, the sermons were read by male members. The congregation was formed in 1745 and was first visited, in 1747, by a pastor, the Rev. Michael Schlatter. Daniel Knauss was among the 50 charter members who founded the church. In 1771, the tract of land, containing 41 acres, was patented to the congregation,
