Permelia Scott Knowles is the daughter of Burton Knowles (1803-1887) and Nancy (Scott) Knowles and was born on 14 Dec 1835 in Gibson County, Indiana, United States ^[1][2].

Permelia married Richard William Horton on 6 Nov 1856 in Menard County, Illinois, United States ^[3]. Permelia and Richard had nine children according to the 1900 census ^[4] although census reports and cemetery records only account for eight^[5][6].
