Johann, age 17, was listed in the Konicek family of eleven that departed Bremen, Germany and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland aboard the "SS Berlin" on 26 Jun 1871.[3] After arriving in America, the family set out for the midwest and settled in Marshall County, Iowa,[4] near Quarry.[1]
He married Barbara Hach[4] (1860–1923) on 13 Sep 1879 in Waltham, Tama County, Iowa.[5] They were married by Lemon B. Hix, their marriage recorded in Tama County Marriages, Book C, page 222.[6] They had the following children:[1]

Lottie, m. Skorepka.
John died on 3 Feb 1937 in Oneida Township, Tama County, Iowa.[2] He is buried at National Cemetery in Vining, Tama County, Iowa.[7]
