Biography

Hannah Kophamer was born 16 March 1882 in Germany. She was the daughter of Louis Kophamer and Mattie Otten. Hannah Kophamer married Charles Hackbarth on 7 March 1900 in Whiteside County, Illinois, United States.[1] Hannah and Charles had at least four children.

Hannah M. Hackbarth appeared in the household of her husband for the 1900 U.S. Census at Genesee Township, Whiteside County, as 18 years old, born in March 1882 in Germany, and had immigrated in 1883. Hannah was recorded as being able to read, write and speak English. She was living with her husband.[2]

By the time the 1910 census was enumerated, Hannah had moved to Wysox Township, Carroll County, Illinois, where her husband Charles was farming. She appeared as 27 years old, married 10 years, the mother of 4 children (4 living), born in Germany, her year of immigration this time 1881 (this was an error, she was born in 1882). She was living with Charles and four of their children.[3]

Hannah and Charles had moved back to Genesee Township by 1920. She was listed in the census as 36 years old, born in Germany and was able to read and write. Hannah was living with her husband and four children.[4]

Hannah Hackbarth was listed in the 1930 census at Genessee Township as 46 years old, born in Germany, first married at the age of 18, her immigration year this time was given as 1885. She was living with her huband and two of their son's.[5]

In the 1940 census for Clyde Township, Whiteside County, Hannah Hackbarth appeared as 57 years old and born in Germany. She was living with her husband in the same rented house as in April of 1935.[6]

Hannah (Kophamer) Hackbarth died on 3 February 1949 in Morrison, Whiteside County.[7] Charles Hackbarth died in 1961.[8]Hannah and Charles are buried together in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Sterling, Whiteside County, Illinois.
