While Dirck was still a witness at age 23 at the baptism of his halfsister Catharina-Geertruy Kraaijwinkel (daughter of his father Abraham and his stepmother Anna Catharina Vik) on 16 4 1769 in Stellenbosch, he returned to the Netherlands and became a pilot (steering man: 'onderstuurman') for the VOC ship(s) (VOC: Netherlands East Indian Company), sailing from Rotterdam. He went tot the notary Christaen Beijerman in Rotterdam to testify on 28 mar 1770, together with other VOC personnel just before leaving port on VOC ship ' Schoonzicht' to sail to Asia via Cape. (http://proxy.handle.net/10648/e939b18a-63cd-737c-dfca-2b5ac275f09b).

Back at the Cape he witnessed the baptism in Stellenberg of another halfbrother Lambertus Dirck Kraaijwinkel (same parents as above) on 1 July 1770, but by 1775 he or more likely his brother ('matroos' VOC) Jan-Dirk was in Asia Batavia, were was expelled for his misconduct "7 Maret 1775 : De om hunne slegte conduite herwaarts gezondene Caapse burgers Nieukerken en Craijwinkel mogen niet terugkeeren zonder voorkennisse der Hooge Regeering, 7 Maart 1775". https://sejarah-nusantara.anri.go.id/id/realia_browse/?order_by=-description&page=300.

Probably he is the same person who as Dirk Kraijwinkel bought a house in Middelburg (province Zeeland, Netherlands) in the Spanjaardstreet: Datum : 1787-12-07 Koper : Dirk Kraijwinkel Verkoper : Jan van Valkenburg Locatie : Middelburg, Spanjaardstraat Object 1 : huis Prijs : £ 216:13:4 Bron : Archief Rekenkamer D 69671 Hiervan kunnen geen kopieen worden besteld / No copies can be ordered Bron: Transporten onroerend goed Middelburg 1757-1805 Archief: Zeeuws Archief: Transporten onroerend goed inventarisnummer [25 juni 2004] Belasting op overdracht van onroerende goederen Zeeuwen Gezocht – Zeeuws Archief https://www.zeeuwsarchief.nl

Dirck still lives in Jan 1779 in Middelburg (towncensus) : name Dirk Kraaywinkel, profession 'Garbuleur', age 49 [sic: he is then 51] , and in 1812 profession 'winkelier' (shopowner) , but no descendants are known, contray to his brother Jan Dirk Kraaywinkel/ Craywinkel who also lived in Middelburg, who married around 1680 and had descendants. (A garbuleur is a person who checks the goods unloading from ships, and is paid VOC employee). His brother Jan Dirck (born 6 dec 1648 Cape, baptized 10 dec) was a mariner '(matroos) VOC first, before becoming a shopowner/merchant in coffee and thea in Middelburg town. he married and had descendant, and died 'Jan Dirk Kraywinkel' there 16 May 1817, age 68.
