Biography

François La Pierre dit Laroche [1] was born about 1648. [2]

His parents and the location of his birth are unknown. It is not known when he emigrated to Acadie.

François married Jeanne Rimbeau (abt.1660-1737) around 1680 in Acadie, Nouvelle-France. [2]

Their children were: [2]

  1. François (1681 - )
  2. Marie ca 1683
  3. Jacques (1685 - 1725)
  4. Claude (La Pierre) La Pierre dit Laroche (abt.1688-abt.1731)
  5. Marguerite (1690 - )
  6. Étienne ca 1692
  7. Marie Anne (~1694 - ~1751)
  8. Marie Madeleine (~1696 - 1757)
  9. Charles (~1699 - <1733).
  10. Jean-Baptiste bef. 1701 census

In 1686, at Baye des Mines, Francois LAPIERRE (sic), dit la Roche, aged 38, was living with his wife, Jeanne RIMBAULT (sic), aged 24, and their three children: Francois, aged 5, Marie, aged 3, and Jacques, aged 1. The family owned 1 gun. No land or livestock was recorded.[3]

They were recorded again at Les Mines in 1693 with their growing family. There were 6 children in the family home. They owned 11 cattle, 4 sheep, and 3 arpents of land. [4] In the 1701 census the family was described as living at the Rivière-des-Vieux-Habitants settlement with 6 boys and 3 girls.[5] By 1703 at Les Mines there were 5 boys and 3 girls in the household. Their son Étienne had passed away. [6] Their sons Charles and Jean-Baptiste are included in the family as this was the only Lapierre family in Acadie.[7]

François died before the 1707 census, in Beaubassin according to the declarations of Acadians at Belle-Isle-en-Mer. [2]

Research Notes

There was only one Lapierre and his wife on the 1707 census, no children, so that must be one of his sons, not him. No widow Lapierre and no Jeanne Rimbault entry.(Bourque-573 13:45, 9 December 2023 (UTC))

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with François by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with François:

Here is the secondary source for the death of Claude Lapierre in Louisbourg: Adrien Bergeron, "Le grand arrangement des Acadiens au Québec", pg 18 of the text or pg 14/235 online. Perhaps I should have been looking for Laroche in the parish records.

Hi Gérard, thank you for the information. I made a new profile for Claude here:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/La_Pierre-961

Would you kindly add the link to this source as mentioned in the Bergeron citation?

Also regarding the Delabat map of Port Royal mentioned in the previous comment, I am not familiar with this source. Could you supply some more information and a link? It might be useful to add to our Reliable Sources.

Thank you, Cindy

Would you please add an active name: Claude Lapierre is included in the 1693 Census of Les Mines (a correction needs to be made above referencing Port Royal). His estimated year of birth would be 1688. There is then a Lapierre indicated on the 1710 Delabat map of Port Royal; he is listed as a coppersmith (chaudronnier). I will include the link to a secondary source in another post indicating that a Claude Lapierre, chaudronnier, died sometime around 1731 in Louisbourg. I could not however find a parish record in Louisbourg for his death after searching parish records from 1728 to 1732.

LaPierre-19 also needs to conform to the Acadian Standard Names. It should be La Pierre with a space between La and Pierre.

Thank you Ralph. I'm a little surprised that not all of our First Families and migrating ancestors have the standard names. I will work though those eventually. I also updated some links in the profile after LNAB changes, such as his wife. Cindy
