I was told by my step-grandmother, Amma Lackey Porter, that her father, William Lackey was dying of the Spanish flu in 1919. She remembered him crawling onto the outside porch so he could go into the other rooms that opened onto the porch. Amma said that her father wanted to tell the other family members goodbye before he died. Amma was very private and I was surprised that she shared that with me. I am the daughter of Beatrice Porter Gibeaut, Peggy (Gibeaut) Murphy
