Biography

James Lamoreaux was a centenarian, living to age 111.


James Lamoreaux Sr. was born 15 JUL 1758 and died 16 NOV 1869. [1]

He was a Pathmaster in 1812. He was of Huguenot descent and had lived in the United States. He bore arms in the War of Independence. His pioneer experience included one or more trips to Kingston with grist in a boat which had been built on the Rouge River. A Mr. Peake and another settler were his companions. The voyage took about three weeks. Two grandsons, James and Thomas Lamoreaux, still live in Dunbarton. [2]

The 1861 census enumerator wrote that James Lamoureaux was born in the United States, while it was still controlled by England and that he was 97. [3]

During the War of 1812, Isaac Lamoreaux served as a private in the 3rd York Militia. His brothers Isaac, Joshua, and John served in the same regiment. An Andrew and Jonas Lamoreaux served as well. Andrew was a younger man as he served in a flank company where the average age was 25. Was Andrew related to the 4 brothers?

From Sept. 9 to 15, 1812, he was recorded in Captain Samuel Ridout’s muster roll as a transfer from the Pickering Company. Samuel commanded the Scarborough Company. [4]

From Sept. 9 to 15, 1812, he served in Capt. Samuel Ridout’s Co. [5]

From Sept. 12 to 15, 1812, he was on leave but was discharged on 15th. [6]

From Mar. 25 to Apr. 24, 1813, he served in Capt. Duncan Cameron’s Co. [7]

From Sept. 25 to Oct. 3, 1813, he deserted from a detachment under Lieut. Thomas Matthews. [8]

From June 25 to Sept. 10, 1814, he served at York in Capt. Ridout’s Co. [9]
