William James Land father died ca 1858.
In the US Federal Census, 1860 in Fannin County Texas, there is J Cook (father) and J Cook (Mother) with several Cook children and a William James Lands age 3 listed as the youngest child. .

I suspect that after William Land died at age ca 58, his wife, Jane Garret Land remarried to James Cook and moved to Texas taking William James Land with her.

Jane had a son with James Cook named Francis Marion Cook who would be William James Land half sibling.
