Helen Mae Lawson was born on 30 November 1926 in Tremont, Hancock County, Maine, USA She was the daughter of Carl Lawson and Daisy Stockbridge. She married Hollis Butler in 1947 at Tremont, Maine. She died on 9 April 2006 at the age of 79 in Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Hollis B. Butler.She was buried at Center Cemetery at Tremont, Maine.

Helen Mae Lawson and Hollis B. Butler had the following children:
