Terry was Choctaw.

Terry was born 7 Jan 1892 at Milton, Moshulatubbee District, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, the son of James Leard and Cora McCarty. Terry passed away 6 Oct 1918 in France. Terry entered the military for World War I at Ratliff, Choctaw County, Oklahoma. Pvt. Leard died from disease while stationed overseas. His body was returned after the war, and he was buried at the Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia.[2]
