Leanora first married James Dickey. They had two daughters; Martha Lenoir and Mary McGill. Upon the death of James, she married Robert McFadden. In the 1860 census [2] "Leah" at the age of 88 appears to be living alone in Sumter, South Carolina.

Research Notes

  • In Howard McCall's Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia [1], he describes the father as "Thomas Lewis (son of Thomas Lewis and Mourning Crawley)." further down on the same page he says "Thomas Lenoir, (son of Thomas Lenoir and Mourning Crawley)." He gets it right at the second attempt.
  • This quote was found on the Singleton and Related Families website, but still looking for original source.
"She was a true patriot, a courier for the Reverend War, an investor in the Confederacy, a plantation CEO. Her descendants are scattered from MD to Texas. She died 92 yrs 3 mos 20 days. She was a large, tall woman, erect, and a commanding figure. She carried herself uprightly, even when aged. She did everything methodically and nothing by halves. She arose a four o'clock and retired at 8'clock, summer and winter. She carried dispatches from General Francis Marion in South Carolina to General Nathaniel Green in NC. She was the flower girl to welcome LaFayette to Camden. She died 36 years after the death of her husband, Robert."
