John was born in 1827 in Llanfair, Kilgeddin, Monmouthshire, Wales. He is the son of John Lodge and Sarah Davies.

He was baptized 4 Nov 1827 at St Mary the Virgin Church, Llanfair, Monmouthshire[[2][3]

In 1841 he was living in Trevethin, Monmouthshire, Wales with his father, mother and older sister Sarah.[4]

While working as a blacksmith in 1851 he was living with the Williams family in Monmouth, Monmouthshire, Wales[5]

John would marry Emma Williams his step mothers younger sister. They married on 13 Feb 1855 in St. Woolos Church in Newport.[6][7]

John and Emma and their three children are living in Newport, St. Woolos in 1861 where he continues his trade as a blacksmith.[8]

On 28 Jun 1862 the family arrives in New South Wales, Australia aboard the Lady Milton[9]

In 1878 his wife Emma dies.

In June of 1880 he would marry Mary Ann Barker[10]

John and Mary Ann would have five children, Clara, Thomas George, Henry Arthur, Isabella M and Mary Alice.

John would die on 23 September 1905 in North Botany, NSW, Australia.[11][12][13]

John Lodge (abt 1828 - 23 Sep 1905 (see Rookwood)) m. Mary Ann Barker (1852 - 17 Jun 1931) in 1880 at Redfern NSW, following Emma's death in 1878.

John and Mary had the following children: Clara (1881 - 24 May 1963) Thomas George (1882 - 18 August 1949), who married Elizabeth Cowell (? - 18 Oct 1926) in 1916 at Redfern, NSW. No known children. Henry Arthur (1884 - 3 Mar 1959), who married Florence A Climpson (? - 1899) in 1924 at Redfern, NSW. One known child - Henry John (1927 - 3 May 2007). Isabella M (1886 - 25 Jun 1955), who married Sidney Ernest Noad (1883 - 30 Dec 1930) in 1911 at Sydney, NSW. No known children. Mary Alice (1890 - 30 Mar 1930), who married Edward Hammond Spearman (1858 - 17 Jan 1928) in 1927 at Redfern, NSW. No known children.
