Biography

George was the son of Malcolm McArthur and Ann McDougall from Bideford, Prince Edward Island.

He married Barbara McDougall on November 2 1859. ^[1] Alexander Milligan, husband of Margaret McDougall, signed the marriage bond with George McArthur.

George was a widower when he married Alice Moore on March 11 1877. Witnesses at the marriage were Ann (McDougall) and Horatio Robinson.

He was a married man, living in lodgings in Calais, Maine in 1880, but without his wife Alice. She must have joined him later that year, because she was with him in the 1900 census. Their eldest son Charles was born on the Island, but the next daughter Drucilla was born in Maine in December 1880.

On his death record, his parents names were Malcolm McArthur and Barbara McDougall. The newspaper added that he was a native of Bideford, PEI. I believe that George's first wife was Barbara McDougall, and this led to the error on his death record.
